EXAMINATIONS

The Graded Qualifications Alliance is the awarding arm of the

British Theatre Dance Association

In effect this means that all regulated qualifications are awarded by the Graded Qualifications Alliance although the programmes that lead to those qualifications are devised and published by the British Theatre Dance Association.

Fully accredited by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulations, Ofqual, GQAL provides awards that compliment existing academic and competence based programmes.

UCAS points are awarded for General Graded Examinations at Grades 6, 7 and 8 (Acrobatics) and
Vocational Graded Examinations at Intermediate and Advanced Foundation (Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz) and Grades 1 to 5 are also awarded Ofqual credits

It is also possible to take Crystal Awards at Level 1/2/3/4/5, before taking the Exam Grade at that level.  A Crystal plaque and a Certificate are awarded for these.

It may seem as though there are a lot of exams, but pupils who attend regularly and work hard have taken Intermediate as young as 13 and Diploma as young as 17.

It all helps dancers to feel a sense of achievement.  The difference in Vocational and Graded examinations is that the Vocational exams include sections on Teaching, Choreography, Professional Development, Health and Safety, Cultural (History/Western/non-Western Cultures) giving dancers a much more rounded knowledge of the dance world.

The Singers take Singing Medal Tests which progress onto Stars and Trophies.
